Bringing together the best of Black Diamond's collapsible Z-series and adjustable FlickLock design, the Distance FLZ Trekking Poles are lightweight, durable sticks for everything from short hikes to heavy multi-day treks. They're made of tough aluminum, which offers plenty of support without breaking and have EVA foam grips with lightweight foam extensions and breathable padded straps to offer support on rocky crossings, steep ascents, and treacherous sidehills.
The FLZs' real trick, though, is their three-section collapsible shafts and FlickLock length adjustment system. By pushing a button and pulling on the grip, you can collapse and assemble the pole as you would an avalanche probe. Once assembled, the FlickLock provides a bomber adjustment mechanism, giving you 20cm of adjustment so you can always find the perfect fit regardless of terrain. Black Diamond also included interchangeable carbide and rubber Tech Tips for grip on various surfaces, so you'll be confident no matter where your adventures take you.

Great for climbing approaches / descents
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
- Height:
- 6' 7"
- Weight:
- 225
I've had these poles for 3 years and put them through a lot. The fact that they are (1) super light, and (2) fold into thirds means you can easily stuff them in your pack on a climb with a long approach. Given how light these are I'm impressed with their durability. I've fallen and basically caught my whole weight (225 lbs) on one of these poles watched it flex, and bounce right back (I was sure I'd snapped it). They are defiantly not as plush as other hiking poles in terms of padding and comfort, but if the choice is between no poles and these, I know what I'm reaching for.
